Seram Coatings is a technology company rooted in materials research and industrial application. The company originated from research at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), led by Professor Nuria Espallargas. The work focused on a challenge in the industry had largely set aside: how to apply silicon carbide – one of the world’s hardest materials – using thermal spray. In 2014, this research formed the basis of Seram Coatings.

To bring the technology closer to industrial use, a pilot production was established in 2018 at Herøya Industrial Park in Porsgrunn, Norway – an environment shaped by decades of process development and home to companies such as Hydro, Equinor and Yara.

Since then, the focus has been on scaling production and validating the technology in real-world applications. With the addition of an in-house test facility and thermal spray booth in 2022, Seram Coatings has strengthen their ability to work closely with customers, test applications and continue developing the technology in practice.

Today, Seram Coatings combines materials science, metallurgy, and thermal spray expertise, with a clear focus on developing solutions that can be applied, validated and scaled in demanding industrial environments.
